What is pump shaft quality (PSQ) bar? 

Pump shaft quality bar is a precision-ground product manufactured to tighter dimensional tolerances than standard hot-rolled bar. It is commonly used in pump shaft applications where straightness and surface finish are critical to performance.

What is turned, ground, and polished (TGP) bar? 

Turned, ground, and polished bar is a finished bar product that has been processed to achieve close dimensional tolerances and a smooth surface finish. It is commonly used in applications where precise sizing and surface quality are required.

What is pitch diameter bar? 

Pitch diameter bar is a hot-rolled bar product sized specifically for roll threading operations. Manufacturers use it to produce threaded rods, studs, fasteners, bolts, and tie-downs for use in industries such as construction, oil and gas, power generation, marine, and petrochemicals.

How do you determine the size of a steel round bar? 

Round bar is measured by diameter and length. Diameter refers to the distance across the circular cross-section of the bar, and length refers to how long the bar is from end to end.

What lengths does Circle H Steel carry?

What is the difference between short-length, standard-length, and long-length bar? 

Short-length bar is typically 12 feet or under. Standard-length bar refers to the common mill lengths most distributors stock. Long-length bar extends beyond standard lengths, allowing manufacturers to get more usable material per piece, reduce the number of pieces they need to stock and transport, and minimize the need for welding or joining shorter sections together.

What value-added services does Circle H Steel offer? 

Circle H Steel offers sawcutting, grinding and custom shafting, and heat treating. These services allow customers to receive material that is closer to production-ready, which can reduce handling steps and help expedite the manufacturing process.

How do you calculate steel bar weight? 

Steel bar weight per foot is calculated by multiplying the diameter by the diameter, then multiplying that result by 2.67. This formula provides the per-foot weight for smooth turned bar.
